That's just it though, we don't need bigger vehicles. Most of the time that I see a durango or excursion or truck it's just one person driving it to get groceries. What ever happened to trucks being for farmers and people just drive cars around. The big vehicles on the road are a hazard, they don't see cars and cars can't see around them. And don't get me started on getting into accidents with those unmanuverable monstrocities. Any person trying to be a decent human being by driving a fuel efficient car gets wiped out.
That's quite the negative outlook on this whole situation. From what I've read Cummins was asked to make these engines almost 10 years ago by the DOE. They didn't even know if chrysler would be their customer. The DOE saw that the pattern was moving to larger vehicles for everyone to drive so they asked Cummins if they could make an engine that would provide the power it needed to while getting better mileage. Looks to me like the result was a success. I'll agree that many people driving around in their big vehicles don't need them. But that's the great thing about the US, we're free to chose to drive what we want to.
